Moose Lake is a thriving community of 2,200 people located at the Gateway to Minnesota's Arrowhead Country. We are located adjacent to Interstate 35, and at the junction of Minnesota state highways 27 and 73. Our community is in southern Carlton County, just 40 miles south of Duluth, Minn., and 90 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
More than 800 students are enrolled in Moose Lake Community Schools, a K-12 campus in one building, where class sizes are kept to an average of 22 students. The City of Moose Lake operates its own water, sewer and power companies, police department, and is home to the Moose Lake Fire Protection District. Moose Lake is home to our new Community and Civic Center which houses the library, senior center, and city and township offices. Mercy Hospital, the Health Center, and Gateway Family Health Clinic offer comprehensive health care to residents and vacationers.
Recreational activities abound in Moose Lake. The Willard Munger State Trail is the longest paved trail in the United States, running 74 miles from Hinckley to Duluth, with Moose Lake at the half-way point! The trail is perfect for bicycling, in-line skating, or snowmobiling. The Soo Line Trail is a multiple use gravel trail branching off from Moose Lake in 3 directions: 112 miles northwest to Cass Lake; 57 miles west to Genola (south of Mille Lacs Lake); and 42 miles northeast to Superior, Wisconsin. The trail is ideal for mountain biking and ATVs in summer and snowmobiles in winter. Moose Lake boasts many local parks, from city park and rest areas, to Moose Lake State Park, located on scenic Echo Lake. Swimming, hiking, biking, fishing, baseball, softball, basketball, tennis, hockey, boating, canoeing, camping, hunting, ricing, berry picking and agate picking are all activities found in Moose Lake.
